I. Preamble
This is the constitution for year one of the Fear the Roto Fantasy Baseball League. In 2016 this league consists of 14 owners/members: Troy, Bill, Phifer, Duane, Suz, Ryan, Chris, Nobe, Zain, Dalton, Robert, Jeff, Tommy and Zack (Commissioner).
Fear the Roto League is designed to keep the same group of members together year after year for season-long competition and provide bragging rights to the owner that builds and maintains the best group of MLB quality players all season long.
Please read over this document and inform me of anything that you may have some dificulty understanding or you may have questions about.
a. Basic scoring rules and league settings can be found on the Yahoo league page.
b. Currently any league discussions can be found on the league page. I hope to incorporate a Facebook group or a forum to keep talk active for trades and other league discussions all season long.
c. This league is a free league currently
d. The league will be bound by the rules established in this constitution. Rule changes may be proposed at any time, but changes will not take effect until the next season. Any disputes are to be brought to the commissioners attention, and the commissioner makes the final decision, with input from league members.
e. Members agree to follow the rules, policies and procedures set herein.
II. Activity
Baseball can be a long and stressful season at times and can be a real endurance test. Three teams will finish with a Yahoo trophy and the rest of you will finish with a team that would need some adjustments for the next season. Even though this may be a long season and there may be a few teams that may have gotten off to a rough start, please don’t concede the season and throw in the towel.
It may be difficult for some of you to check and adjust your teams daily, but our goal os to have a league with everybody particpating from beginning to end. Listed below are some tips on keeping a haelthy, competitve roster
a. Do not leave injured or inactive players in your lineup. Even if you maybe in the bottom of the standings in August. At this point please at least check your team once a week to make sure all your starters are active.
b. Managers will respond to trade proposals made through the league page. Please don’t allow trades to sit until they expire.
c. Managers are to respond to messages and emails from the commissioner.
d. Members are encouraged to regularly update their team slogan, use the message board, and to interact with others members wheather it may be on Yahoo, or some other form of social interaction site.
e. Please watch the language you may use on these boards, even though I haven’t run into this problem that often, some managers may not realize how far they take some of their language or treatment of other members. We are all adults here and can be respectful of everyone in the league, that’s all I ask.
III. Setup
a. Choose an unique team name.
b. Team rosters will include keeper selections and team rosters will be filled out completely with a live snake draft. Next year’s draft will take place at a mutually agreed upon time that will be discussed once the league fills up after Yahoo opens registration.
c. Draft order for 2016: I Profar a Jurickson (Troy), Man Bear Puig (Zack), Cahilling Me Softly (Suz), Tommy K’s Okay Team (Tommy), Blur Farm Bombers (Chris), Harper’s Bazaar (Bill), McCovey Cove (Phifer), Dalton’s Dandy Team (Dalton), Touch ‘Em All Joe (Zain), Robert’s Team (Robert), Local Animals (Jeff), Last Place is Mine! (Ryan), Greinke Cats (Nobe), Just a Bit Outside (Duane).
IV. Rosters
a. Each team in Fear the Roto league will have 22 players on its roster.
b. Only players available on the Yahoo free agent lists are available for pickup. Players that are prospects or foreign players that teams pickup mid season are not available for pickup until Yahoo lists them.
c. A team’s active starting lineup consists of: 1 Catcher, 1 First Baseman, 1 Second Baseman, 1 Shortstop, 1 Third Baseman, 3 Outfielders, 1 Utility/DH player (Hitter of any position), 8 Pitchers (Starters/Relievers) and 4 reserve players. Only statistics accumulated by players in the active starting lineup will contribute to the standings.
d. Two disabled list (DL) slots and two Not Available (N/A) slots to be used for prospects will be avilable for each team. Utilizing these spots can expand a single teams roster to 26 players.
e. Free agent players may be added to a team’s roster for the following day. Dropped players must go through the waiver process for two days. Waiver claim priority is given on a rolling basis and will be assigned according to draft order, with last team to pick given the top priority, first team to pick gets last priority.
f. Teams can make up to 80 moves (free agent pickups) per season.
V. Trading
a. Trades can occur through the Yahoo league site for basic trades. Trades that may include draft picks with a value to be determined at a later date, or three team trades would have to be processed by the commissioner.
b. Trades are completed as they are proposed and accpeted on the Yahoo league site, and then approved by the commissioner and the league within the two day veto window.
c. Trades involving next season’s draft picks are allowed, so long as all teams end with 22 total draft picks. Each trade must be completeled with an even amount of picks going to each team involved.
d. Three team trades are allowed if a deal can be agreed upon between all parties involved. A manager involved in the deal has to send the commissioner all the information, while the other managers involved must message the commissioner that they agree to said deal. Once the commissioner agrees that deal deal is fair, the league will then vote on it. If league approves the commissioner will finalize the deal by altering the rosters.
e. Draft picks to be determined later are alowed if both managers agree on the deal. Both managers must submit all the details of said deal to the commissioner. They will provide the commissioner with a tier system as to what values would need be achieved by player(s) involved in the deal for the pick to mature. Both teams would still need to trade a pick to make the amount of picks even for next years draft.
f. Trade deadline is August 31
g. Trades will be allowed during the offseason. They will only be allowed from January 1st until March 1st. Trades can include players and/or draft picks. Any deals agreed upon between members will have to be posted on our facebook page/forum, which ever has been the default page for our league. The deals could also be emailed to the commissioner.
VI. Scoring
a. This league uses Rotisserie Scoring. The maximum points attainable is 140 (14 x 10 categories) and the minimum is 10 (1 x 10 categories)
b. The statistical categories used in this league are:
-- for batters: Home runs (HR), stolen bases (SB), runs batted in (RBI), runs scored (R), and on base percentage (OBP).
-- for pitchers: strikeouts (K), earned run average (ERA), walks + hits/Innings pitched (WHIP), quality starts (QS), and saves (S)
c. All players in the starting lineup will accumulate statistics based on their real life performance, which would be used to determine the scoring and league standings.
d. There is a maximum of 162 games played per batter position spot, and a maximum of 1400 innings pitched per team. Once those limits are reached no additional stats will count at that position.
VII. Winning
a. The team that finishes the season with the highest rotisserie point total is the champion. Runner-up and third place also get recognition.
b. There are no playoffs
c. In the event of a tie, the team with the fewest games played will get the tie-breaker.
VIII. Keepers
a. To be eligible as a keeper, a player must be on your roster on September 1st and remain on your roster until the end of the season.
b. During the process of selecting keepers, each team must select one player to become their “franchise player.” This player is retained as a forth round draft selection.
c. Owners must also select 7 other players that were on their previous season’s roster to remain on their team. These 7 players are retained at the cost of the round they were drafted minus one round. Players drafted in the first round are not eligible for keepers, but they can be tagged as your franchise player.
d. Players not drafted but selected from the free agent pool will occupy draft spots according to the teir system. These players will occupy spots by rounds of five starting with round 22. For instance if you keep 3 free agents from last year they will occupy spots 22,17,12. If any of those spots are occupied by another keeper then that player will slide down and take the next available spot. The manager will decide on which players will occupy what spots (if more than one).
e. Owners may keep the same player as long as they wish or until that player is no longer eligible.
f. A player may be tagged as Franchise player as many years as the owner elects. However, the year a franchise tag is removed, that player is not elgible as a keeper and must enter the draft pool.
g. A team may only keep one player per legal draft spot. This means if a team aquires a second player (via trade or waiver wire) that was taken in the same round as another player on their current team, only one of these players become a keeper. Except if an owner recieves another pick for that said round in a trade.
h. After the draft, Franchise tagged players and other keeper players may be traded or dropped. Keepers only impact draft day. The player retains his draft round status for the following year.
i. In the unlikely event that a team does not have enough eligible players for keepers, the commissioner will make a decision on how to proceed.
j. 4th round draft picks (franchise tag) may not be traded.
IX. Commissioner
a. The commissioner’s job is to make sure the league runs efficiently, is enjoyable as possible for all league members, and resolve issues that may arise.
b. The commissioner will not use his administrative power to gain an unfair advantage.
c. The commissioner reserves the right to enforce rules in the spirit of the league.
